Matt Memoli – Summer Camp Coordinator

Coaching Career

Matt is currently a sixth year physical education teacher at Newtown Middle School in Newtown, CT. Matt is entering his second year as the head baseball coach at Newtown High School. At age 25 he led the Newtown Nighthawks to a 17–7 record and the quarterfinals of the state tournament. In 2009 Matt was a volunteer assistant baseball coach at Yale University where he worked with the hitters, outfielders, and infielders.

Collegiate Career

Matt completed his undergraduate studies at Central Connecticut State University where he majored in Physical Education, minored in Psychology, and earned a cross endorsement in Health Education. While at Central, Matt was a two-year captain on the baseball team, an all-conference player and part of two conference championships. During Matt’s tenure at CCSU, the team earned two automatic bids to the NCAA tournament and competed against some of the top Division I baseball programs in the nation, including Arizona State and the University of Florida. During his sophomore year, Matt ranked fifth in the Northeast Conference in hitting with a .359 batting average. Matt ranks sixth on the all-time hit list at Central Connecticut State with 173 and seventh in runs batted in with 103 for his career.

Educational Credentials

Matt earned his master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University in School Health and is currently earning his Sixth year certificate in Educational Leadership.

Collegiate Coaching Career
Bill served as the Associate Head Baseball Coach at Yale in 2008 and the Assistant Baseball Coach from 2000–2007. In that time he served as the hitting coach, defensive and team fundamentals coach, baserunning coach, and recruiting coordinator. In 2006 the program boasted 26 wins which is second all time in the programs 150 year history. Over the course of his 8 year tenure his national recruiting effort has produced a number of players who’ve rewritten many of the Yale’s individual and team records. Most recently 6th round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox, Ryan Lavarnway, broke Yale’s all-time career home runs record as well as the Ivy League home record in only 3 seasons (33). Ryan also owns the single season mark for homeruns (14), as well as the single season mark for doubles (17), batting average (.467), and RBI (55). Also, 15th round draft pick of the Chicago Cubs, Marc Sawyer ’07 owns the career record for hits at Yale (218), while center fielder Josh Cox ’08 owns the single season mark for hits in a season (72) and at-bats (191). During Bill’s tenure a new team record for homeruns was set in 2008 (44). All tolled in his 8 years at Yale 9 players signed professional contracts, 2 players were elected player of the year in the Ivy League, 2 players were elected pitcher of the year in the Ivy league, while 34 players boasted All-Ivy honors, 14 of whom were first team selections.

Professional Baseball
Bill played two years in Professional baseball. The first came in 1993 as he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Orioles. He played one season in Bluefield for former Oriole catcher Andy Etchebarron. He later played and managed one season overseas in Vasteras, Sweden for the Vasteras Baseball Club in the Swedish Baseball Federation.

Collegiate Career
Bill played for 4 years at Yale University and was elected captain during his senior season in which the Bulldogs won a program record 33 games. During his time there, he and his Bulldog teammates won two league championships and attended two NCAA Regionals in 1992 and 1993 at Mississippi State and Texas A&M respectively. He was an All-Ivy selection three times and an All-Northeast selection once. Bill was a ’93 graduate with a B.A. in Sociology.

Fall Reception


Come join a fun night out with the CT Gators and CORE Academy staff, and coaches.  This is our 4th annual Wine Tasting event and  NEW this year we are bringing in a beer tasting section from Milford’s newest brewery Milford Point Brewery.  The event will be catered with great food and lots of different prizes from football tickets, Gator Gear, gift cards and much, much more.
